Seven Teller is the art-rock brainchild of Baltimore musician and songwriter Sam Cochran, who started the project in 2020. A blend of post-punk, dance, and psych-rock music nourishes the band’s unique, immersive sound. The band’s roster includes Sam, Jager Soss (formerly of Baked Shrimp), Chris Ackerman, and Ben Nevius.
Seven Teller is expanding the norms by creating music that’s reminiscent of acts like LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, and CAN, while still performing live shows that showcase deep improvisation, referencing their roots in the jam scene and early influences like Phish and Lotus. Their devoted fanbase, called “Teller Family,” travels hours to concerts, so the band tries to make each night feel more spontaneous and special than the last. Seven Teller has featured sit-ins from Cotter Ellis (Goose), Jake Brownstein (Eggy), and Eli Winderman (Dopapod). The band’s strongest markets are in the mid-atlantic, but they’ve built a reputation in states as far as Colorado and Texas. Seven Teller has been releasing new music steadily in 2025 and expects a full-length release in early 2026.

“Whether it’s songs like “Ship In The Night,” which seems to deal with depression (“This darkness begins and ends in you,”) the title character, “The Jester,” an absurd stilted character who says “good night” in the day and “good morning” in the night time, or the appropriate band jam titled, “Entourage,” these are all funky-ass tunes to make you dance and to make you think at the same time. They are known for switching it up at shows, so that no show is like another. But that’s the treat of this recorded collection, there’s no filler only killer, with intricate musical breakdowns on keys, bass, and guitar. If you like roots music, funk music, dance music with charm and imagination, they’re doing as good stuff as any other successful band out there. Definitely check this album out and get out to one of their dynamic shows, where the magic really happens.”

“I can’t forget to mention how much our fans mean to us… A portion of them are people who know us personally or knew us from the start. They are people who have fed us and given us beds to sleep in on the road. They are the folks we can always count on coming to our shows, or they help do street promo for the gig. We call them “Teller Family” because we like to think that we all treat each other like family in the band and the audience. There aren’t any lines between us… There are so many great things happening in the scene and it feels like something special.”
